HOW TO RETAIN YOUR HANDLOOM SAREES AS GOOD AS NEW?

Due to the tenderness, the handloom sarees require a lot of care and maintenance. In order to keep your adorable handloom saree unharmed and retain their elegance as good as new, consider to follow the tips as stated below.

Washing Method

  • Before soaping your sarees, immerse them in salt water for a little while. Never keep them in water overnight or long time as they may fade their colour.
  • Always use premium and branded detergents and avoid any harsh chemicals, dyes or bleach for washing.
  • Even if there are stains in your saree avoid using hot water and stay away from brushing because it may scratch its fabric.
  • Soon after soaking the saree simply rinse them in cold water about 2-3 times before putting in detergent.
  • Lastly, hand-washing is always preferred rather than using a washing machine frequently.

Drying Method

  • While drying a saree avoid its exposure to direct sunlight as it will be just enough to discolour it.
  • Never twist to squeeze out the water as it’ll lead to creasing.
  • So, just spread them out flat on an even surface for drying.

Ironing Method

  • Shun spraying water on your sarees before ironing because it may leave a permanent stain on the fabric.
  • Keep the heat of your iron low or medium heat.
  • Another way is to keep your garment on a specific cotton cloth or ironing board to avoid creasing.

Preserving Method

  • Before storing your saree make sure that its water is completely dried or unless the moisture in it can harm its fabric.
  • If possible, try to wrap your expensive handloom sarees in a fine cotton cloth or muslin so that air can pass through and keep them moisture-free.
  • You can even hang them vertically inside a cupboard but avoid metal hangers as they may leave rust stains on your clothes.
  • Lastly, store them in a dry and dark place in order to prevent them from discolouration.

Removal Of Stains

  • An instant action must be adopted if your saree gets a stain accidentally.
  • In case of any oily stain just scatter talcum powder on that part and rest it until it soaks the oil. Later, simply rub and wash it.
  • In case of beverage spills, immerse a cotton ball in fresh petrol and then wipe it off.
